Things To Do When You’re Sad

Just found this cute list of things to do when you’re sad on Pinterest.  I’ll have to keep this in mind the next time I’m feeling blue.

Things I would add to this list:

What would you add to the list?

Tonight we’re going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 again.  I’m excited to see it a second time because the first time I had to explain to Jonathan and Abby what was going on, plus I was pretty emotional.  Maybe I’ll put on one of my mini dark mark temporary tattoos :)

The End of an Era

I’ve been a Harry Potter fan since the first movie came out when I was ten years old.  My fifth grade class read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and then went to see the movie in theaters.  Who knew that ten years later I would be sitting in the same theater crying my eyes out as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 came to an end?

Last night, Jonathan, Abby, and I went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2.  I’m so happy with the way Part 2 turned out…I think it was perfect.  I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it (or, God forbid, hasn’t even read the books…), but let me just tell you that you will not be disappointed.

You can’t really tell from the picture, but my sweatshirt says ‘Hogwarts’ (it has the crest on the back).  My dad got it for me at Harry Potter World in Universal Studios!

The theater was giving out temporary tattoos.  How could I say no?!

If you saw DH Part 2, what did you think of it?

The Cake Pop Adventure

Okay, so I stumbled across this (and this) cake pop tutorial and decided that I had to try them out.  My first attempt didn’t turn out as disastrous as I thought it would!  I had originally planned on making “Golden Snitch” cake pops in honor of tonight’s double-feature of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2, buuutt it turns out I’m not quite talented enough to get all fancy with my cake pop decorating just yet.

Here are the puppies after 2 hours of sitting in the fridge.

Mistake #1: I made them way too big.  When it was time to frost them, they kept sliding off the sticks because they were too heavy.  Mistake #2: When I dipped the stick in the candy coating and put the stick in the cake balls, I didn’t wait long enough for the candy to harden before frosting the entire cake ball.  That’s another reason why they slid off the sticks.

This was the very first cake pop that I frosted.  It turned out great!  The second one was eaten because it wasn’t as pretty :) (see how I dyed the candy coating yellow for the ‘snitch’?)

After I ran out of yellow coating I just did the rest of them plain white and added these cute rainbow sprinkles that I found in the cupboard.

My shopping list:

  • 1 box of Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix
  • 1 can of Pillsbury cream cheese frosting
  • 2 packages (16 oz each) of Meijer brand European Style candy coating
  • 1 bag of craft sticks (because Meijer didn’t have candy sticks)

I’ll definitely be making these again soon.  Next time I think I’ll try strawberry cake mix with cream cheese frosting…yum!
